What Risks You Face Without Medicare Insurance
Author David Schneider | May 23,2007
Everyone has heard how expensive medical insurance has become. The technology behind it and the cost of the equipment, the research and the doctor's insurance has all worked together to drive costs higher than ever before. This means that it all gets passed down to the consumer - the person that needs it the most - to you. The risks of not having Medicare insurance are great, and here are a few of them that will also show you why you need it.

Not Being Able To Get The Medical Help You Need

The first problem of not having any Medicare insurance is the fact that most doctors and hospitals will not even see you these days if you do not have insurance. Or, if they will see you, then you will only receive a minimum of medical care - just enough to get you stabilized - then back out you go. This means that you may not even receive quality treatment for whatever the problem may be, and further treatment or testing may be out of the question.

Unable To Get The Medicine You Need

For most medical treatments, there is usually some medicine that needs to go along with it. But what if the medicine is so costly that you cannot afford it? And what if the medicine you need is necessary to sustain your life? Some medicines may cost up to $100 per pill, and you may need a two-week supply - or longer. Sometimes medicine may even be needed for the rest of your life. Medicare Part D offers such prescription care and greatly reduces how much you will pay per prescription. In most cases this will enable you to get the medicine you need - when you need it. It is a stand-alone program, so even if you have other health care, you can still get it for your prescriptions - or even to supplement those programs.

Possible Enormous Medical Bills

The cost of a visit to an emergency room, followed by a hospital stay, can be tremendous. With hospital rooms now costing over $900 per day for some of them, it does not take long for the bills to start adding up. Then add on to it the cost of a MRI, or CT scans, specialists, and pretty soon you could buy a small house with the cost.

By using Medicare parts A, B and D, these costs would be mostly paid for you. If you have an additional Medicare supplement then these costs now are much smaller - perhaps even small enough to let you go to sleep at night.

Protect Your Future

You have worked long and hard to get where you are now. It would be a great loss if it all had to go toward paying medical bills that Medicare insurance could have provided for. While it is natural as people grow older to have doctor and hospital bills, you do not have to let your hard earned dollars (or your children's dollars) be entirely used to support the medical establishment. Let Medicare pay for much of it, and you can keep enough to live on and still enjoy your retirement years.

There actually is no direct way in telling how much better off you would be with it. Part A is free for most people who have worked the majority of their life. Part B needs to be enrolled in just before you turn 65, and you can sign up for part D at the same time to cover those prescriptions. Some people can actually join even before they turn 65, and that would be those who have End Stage Renal Disease, and those who have Lou Gehrig's Disease.

As with any insurance company, when you look over Medicare insurance and its supplements, be sure to compare the costs. The supplements run from A to L, and each one is a little different. Each Medicare insurance supplement company sets its own rates and these will vary from one state and area to the next. While the coverage is largely governed by the government, the prices vary, so by doing a comparison of costs and the coverage, you will be able to find a Medicare insurance plan that will work for you.
