While the media has suggested that there are no affordable health plans on the market today, this is simply not true. You just need to learn where to look and what to look for. Once you have this information, it is relatively easy to find an affordable health plan for you, your family or your company.
Affordable Health Plans -- Group Health Plans
One of the easiest ways to find an affordable health plan is to look for a group health plan. Group health plans save you money because you are basically buying health care coverage in bulk. In order to qualify for a group health care plan, you will need to have a sizeable group of applicants to cover. Generally, this type of coverage is only offered to companies or special organizations. If you have a small business with fewer than 25 employees, then chances are you will not be able to find a group health plan that you will be able to qualify to receive. In that case, you will want to look for a small group health insurance program. To qualify for this type of insurance program, you generally only need between four and ten employees.
Affordable Health Plans -- HMOs and PPOs
If you don’t qualify for a group health insurance program, then you can look for individual policies that are set up as HMOs or PPOs. These types of insurance programs, also referred to as managed care, are less expensive than traditional fee-for-service programs. However, you will still pay between $200 and $1,000 per employee per month depending on the deductible and coverage offered. You can save money on coverage by selecting higher deductibles or fewer coverage options.
