Why You Cant Afford To Lose Your Business Due To Lack Of Business Insurance
Author David Schneider | May 23,2007
You want to take your business to the heights that you envision and give yourself something to celebrate - especially if it looks like much brighter days are ahead. Sometimes, however, unforeseen glitches in the road of success can bring those hopes and dreams to a screeching halt. Having a good business insurance policy can prepare you for those days and events and enable you to keep going. A lack of a good policy can cause you to lose all. Here is what you need to know about business insurance and how it can help you be prepared for possible loss.

Liability

Today, this area is a major concern to any business - especially to one that is getting started on the road to success. Lawsuits are common now, and it does not take much to find that there is one that has your name on it. You can be held liable for your vehicles, injuries on the job, faulty products, negligence, advertising that someone takes the wrong way and even not meeting deadlines.

Business insurance is designed to meet those obligations and provide the money needed for such lawsuits. While you can't always prevent situations from occurring that might result in an injury or loss of someone else's property, yet you can be ready if it should occur.

Loss Of Property

A fire or flood could wipe out all of your equipment, materials, product and building in just a few hours. A thief could steal your computers and other equipment overnight. Without insurance, this could bring your business to a complete stop - and a potentially severe loss. If you have no business insurance, your business could end right there. If you run your business out of your home, then you need to talk with your homeowners insurance agent to discover what it will or will not cover in the event of a loss. In most cases, a business related liability claim is often not covered at all.

A good business insurance could enable you to relocate and provide you with the equipment you need in a short time. You would not need to wait for your facilities to be rebuilt, because insurance called Extra Expense Insurance would provide you with the funds to get a building, and equipment to enable your business to go on.

Insurance will also rebuild your facilities or at least replace the damaged portion of it. Your contents and equipment will also be replaced with a quality business insurance policy in place.

Income Replacement

When there is a loss of the use of your facilities, an insurance called Business Interruption Insurance will provide you with an income equal to what you had prior to the disaster, minus any expenses. While there is a short waiting period, your potential loss is minimized by your income being sustained, and you may even be able to keep your employees.

Workmen's Compensation

Besides the above coverage, the state you are in requires that you provide your employees with workmen's compensation. This insurance releases you from potential lawsuits if they are injured and cannot work. It will also keep the employees happy and confident in you too.

Key Man Insurance

This insurance takes care of your business if it should lose an employee or business partner that your business revolves around. It is a life insurance policy on that individual that is key to your business. In the event of their death, it will provide your company with the funds it needs to buy out their partnership so that their family can move on, or help you to have the finances needed to find some one else to take their place. Without this part of your business insurance policy, your business could be put out of existence.
